Going For Independence is a Community Interest Company which was established in 2008 to help people to find the right equipment and impartial advice to help them to stay independent.

Why did you decide to become a Community Champion?

II feel it is important to represent the visually impaired community and to work to improve services wherever possible and make things more accessible, so I wanted to join as a champion.

How does your role help people in South Tees?

We are always able to signpost people to the best services and we currently run activities for people with sight loss across the Teesside region - in Hartlepool, Darlington, Stockton, Middlesbrough and Redcar.

I am the founder and Managing Director of the organisation and assist as a volunteer with the activities.
